Products Containing Hydrogenated Oils — An ongoing list of products selected by my child, or bought for him by grandma, that contain hydrogenated oils. List inspired by numerous articles claiming transfats have been eliminated from the food supply. Some cities can ban trans fats in restaurants, but so many products containing them still fill store shelves.
Nabisco Barnum’s Animal Crackers
The kid classic that grandma loves to bring contains "PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED COTTONSEED OIL" Fortunately, he does not like them much and they are able to go into the trash can.
Ritz Crackers — "partially hydrogenated cottonseed oil"
Pasta Roni Four Cheese Corkscrew Pasta – partially hydrogenated palm oil is the third ingredient after 2 types of flour likely for the pasta. That means the #1 ingredient for the sauce is hydrogenated oil. This product is particularly annoying because in several places in the instructions, they say to add "margarine, butter or spread with no trans fat" The only reason I bought this was my son liked the Golden Gate Bridge on the box. I was impressed with a 4-year old liking that bridge and did not read the box until we got home. Fortunately, he liked the picture better than the pasta and won’t want it again.
Sara Lee Mini Bagels
Keebler Ice Cream Cones
Girl Scout cookies — each variety in 2008 lists hydrogenated oil
Jiffy Pizza Crust Mix — "contains one or more of the following: lard, hydrogenated lard, partially hydrogenated lard"
